In fact, we introduced three versions of the suite, with varying levels of conceptual design and visualization tools.
As many of you already know, we introduced the Autodesk Design Suite in the fall. Network Licensing and CAD Manager configuration options are not available in this first release layer filters, groups, and states are not present Sheet Set Manager, DGN, PDF, and DWF underlay support are also not available for this first release. This first release of AutoCAD for Mac is best suited for small to medium sized businesses, where enterprise-wide implementation features are not as important.
Windows specific technologies such as Visual Basic for Applications, OLE objects, and Windows Media Audio are not supported in AutoCAD for Mac. However there are some differences between AutoCAD and this first release of AutoCAD for Mac.Because it’s a native Mac application, in the AutoCAD for Mac user interface the commands, tools, and tool sets follow the methods familiar to Mac users and are based on a menu bar and palettes instead of ribbon tabs and toolbars. You now have a choice of platform when using AutoCAD software.AutoCAD for Mac is AutoCAD at its heart, complete with the familiar tools and commands users count on to deliver the best 2D and 3D design.Commands, tools, and tool sets follow the intuitive interface methods common in Mac native applications, so instead of ribbon tabs and toolbars, you will see the menu bar common to Mac applications, and a number of palettes that organize frequently used tools in a logical manner. Find your designs quickly by using Cover Flow navigation to flip through graphical previews of your files.
AutoCAD for Mac software is purpose-built to take advantage of native Mac featuresPan and zoom with Multi-Touch gestures using a Magic Mouse or trackpad device. However users who prefer a Mac native environmentwill appreciate the redesigned “UI Chrome” and the many Apple-centric UI elements and design patterns. Current users of AutoCAD will find the robust 3D free-form modeling tools and powerful drafting capabilities they expect from AutoCAD, as well as the familiar grips and snaps in the drawing area, and the command line which is similar to the experience on Windows platform. AutoCAD for Mac is a full version of AutoCAD designed specifically as a native Mac application. And while it hasn’t yet been publicly announced, I’m happy to tell you that it will be available in mid April. The #1 feature request we’ve gotten for WS is to make the mobile app available on Android. The team is iterating quickly, and has already had 3 updates since the initial launch. With the 2012 releases of the AutoCAD family of products, we’re including in-product access to AutoCAD WS. Many customers are also accessing their designs via the web app. It’s been a tremendous success so far, with over 1 million downloads of the mobile app.
